World Championships 1969 in the GDR For the 1969 World Cup in the German Democratic Republic, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued three multi-colored special postage stamps. A special first day envelope will not be issued. International sports competitions in the German Democratic Republic In the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the German Democratic Republic, major international sports events take place on the soil of the socialist state of the German nation. In the months of August, September and October, the GDR is the organizer of the XVI. Team World Championships of Students in Chess, World Cup in Volleyball and World Championships in Indoor Cycling. These three events are dedicated to special stamps issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic. The championships in indoor cycling take place from October 23 to 26, 1969 in the Thüringenhalle of the flower city of Erfurt. Direct World Championship competitions are two-wheeler and one-man riding. In addition to the World Cup competitions, several side events complete the World Championship program: a European criterion in men's two-man driving, the Achilles Joinard commemorative award in the one-artistic women's competition and the Erfurt Grand Prix in women's two-man driving. The athletes of the German Democratic Republic can look back on noteworthy successes in indoor cycling. They won the title of world champion twice in the men's two-wheeler ball (1958 and 1966) and once in the one-art (1967). In addition, they were able to win second and third places several times. From 13 to 20 September 1969, the World Cup for volleyball will be held for the first time. Twelve teams received the eligibility of the international federation according to their skill level, among them the teams from the USSR, Japan, Socialist Republic of Romania, People's Republic of Poland, Czechoslovakia and Valks republic of Bulgaria. The preliminary round matches take place in three groups, in Berlin, Leipzig and Halle / Neustadt. The final round from 17 to 20 September sees the teams in the fight for the 1st to 6th place in Berlin and united in Schwerin the teams in the fight for the 7th to 12th place. The start of a new sporting highlight in international volleyball sports has been released.
