"Holder boy in curly hair" - who does not know her, the line from the famous Christmas carol "Silent Night! Holy Night!"? Joseph Mohr, who had originally written the text as a poem, worked in 1816 in Mariapfarr in Salzburg Lungau as auxiliary priest. Two years later, "Silent Night! Holy Night! "On 24 December by him and the Arnsdorf teacher Franz Xaver Gruber, who wrote the melody, first performed in Oberndorf. However, Mohr had already written the text in 1816 in Mariapfarr. On the altar of the parish church there are also some panel paintings, one of which depicts the baby Jesus with particularly luxuriant hair. The Magi pay homage to the newborn child and bring gifts. The color of the painting makes its garments seem particularly valuable. This painting, which may have inspired Joseph Mohr as a source of inspiration for the well-known verse from Silent Night! Holy Night! "Served as the seven remaining panels from a late-Gothic high altar of the church. The paintings are mounted as rigid wings, there is a holiday page and a weekday page. Today, the holiday page is constantly shown, the images of which also includes the worship of kings. All eight panel paintings depict scenes from the life of Mary: Annunciation, death, coronation and encounter at the Golden Door, birth, temple walk, marriage and just the adoration of the wise. According to Kirchenfolder ("Christian Art Sites of Austria") the panel paintings are attributed to an unknown Styrian master around 1500, but also a connection with the "Master of Mondsee" is mentioned here. Other sources assign the works to a painter of the Danube School, here are the names Erhard Altdorfer and Jörg and Erhard Breu called creator - the origin can not really be determined.
