1972 International Rose Exhibition in the GDR At the 1972 International Rose Exhibition in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multicolored special postage stamps depicting various rose varieties. International Rose Exhibition 1972 in Erfurt A special highlight in the iga year (1) 1972 is the International Rose Exhibition, in which participants from eleven European countries review their best production and breeding results in a performance comparison. This largest event of its kind in the GDR gains particular importance by the demonstration of numerous new varieties of field roses and roses under glass and plastic. The intensive and successful breeding work of the last years in our republic is the reason to publish a stamp series for the International Rose Exhibition 1972, which presents six of the best rose varieties in the GDR. 5 Pfennig value: Carnelian Rose The "Carnelian Rose" is a new breed of the Horticulture Section of the Humboldt University of Berlin, Department of Ornamental Plant Production, Berlin-Köpenick. It is a tea hybrid with dark, almost black buds, whose color turns into a warm, velvety tone when it blooms. This variety reaches a height of 70 to 90 cm, is suitable for garden planting and has also asserted itself in cultivation under glass. (1) International Horticultural Exhibition
