Endangered animals 15-pfennig value. Maned Wolf The home of the maned wolf are steppe areas of South America from central Brazil to northern Argentina. An adaptation to the tall grass of his habitat are the long legs. The food of the maned wolf consists of small mammals (wild guinea pigs and other rodents), birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and snails. Fruits temporarily make up a significant part of the diet. The maned wolf is a cultural devil and disappears into landscape-used areas, where it is hunted also in ignorance of its harmlessness. In zoos, this wild dog species is not common, and also breeding successes are rare. In Tierpark Berlin there were repeated offspring in this species. An international studbook of the maned wolf is led in Heidelberg.
