Leipziger Spring Fair 1981 At the Leipzig Spring Fair 1981, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from March 10 to May 9, 1981 Leipzig Spring Fair 1981 10-pfennig value: Hotel Merkur Leipzig After a construction period of 30 months, the Hotel Merkur will have its premiere as the 31st building of the INTERHOTEL Association for the Spring Fair 1981. The hotel was built by the Japanese company KAJIMA including other foreign and GDR companies. With its opening, the city of Leipzig has a 5-star luxury hotel that offers modern comfort and traditional hospitality. It is located right in the center of the trade fair metropolis and, due to its architecture, represents another urban development dominant. The hotel has 700 beds in single and double rooms, apartments and suites. There are 800 places in the dining options. Of particular note are the Art Nouveau-style Arabeske Restaurant, the Italian food restaurant Milano and the Japanese specialty restaurant Sakura. An exclusive night dance bar, the Merkur Club, offers conviviality and entertainment in an effective atmosphere. The Banquet and Congress Center is available for meetings and receptions. This variable in size congress hall allows events in different seating arrangements for 50 to 350 people. It is, like all other rooms of the hotel, fully air-conditioned. A simultaneous Dormetscher system as well as modern sound, picture and lighting technology meet the highest demands on modern conference technology. In the hotel's fitness center, guests will find a modern indoor pool, ladies' and men's saunas, solariums, gymnastics and massage areas and bowling alleys.
