Its outstanding historical achievement is the introduction of the Reformation, which was the first bourgeois revolution in the context of the German Peasants' War and accelerated the decline of feudalism internationally. In a historically short period, the Reformation freed science and culture on an international scale from the spiritual tutelage of feudalism, thus preparing for the replacement of the feudalist mode of production. In the person of Martin Luther, the population of the GDR not only honors the great reformer, but also the linguist who, with his translation of the Bible, has made a significant contribution to the development of a German national language.
