Narrow Gauge Railways in the GDR, 3rd Edition With the depiction of narrow gauge railways in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two multi-colored se-tenant prints. Schmalspurbahnen in the GDR narrow gauge line Zittau - health resort Oybin / health resort Jonsdorf The narrow gauge line Zittau - health resort Oybin with the branch Bertsdorf - health resort Jonsdorf was handed over on the 25th November 1890 the traffic. This train leads from the center of Zittau next to the regular gauge station about 3 km through the local situation Zittaus and then rises to the heights of Upper Lusatia. The construction of this railway has opened up the attractive area around Mount Oybin and the spa town of Jonsdorf for tourism. The numerous smaller industrial companies also benefited from the opportunity to bring their goods to Zittau and thus to the railway network faster and cheaper. The route length is 12.2 km from Zittau to the health resort Oybin and 3.8 km from Bertsdorf to the health resort Jonsdorf. In Jonsdorf, the route reaches its highest point at 35.0 m above sea level. Oybin is at an altitude of 389 m above sea level, the lowest point recorded the breakpoint Zittau south with 231 m above sea level. The railway station Bertsdorf has a special landmark on a signal box building similar to a central station of the standard gauge. This narrow gauge line has lost none of its importance for tourism today. Every year, about 750,000 people seeking relaxation visit the Zittau Mountains. This crowd of visitors justifies the continued operation of this train for the future.
