Coat of Arms of the GDR, Edition 1984 With the publication of five multicolored special postage stamps, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic continues the series "Stadtwappen der DDR". Special cancellations from February 21 to April 20, 1984 Stadtwappen The second city herald issue brings the coat of arms of the district towns of Gera, Halle, Karl-Marx-Stadt, Leipzig and Magdeburg. The coat of arms of Leipzig shows in the split golden shield in front a black lion with red tongue and reinforcement, behind two blue poles. Thus it differs from the Karl-Marx-Städter coat of arms only by the exchanged pictures and by the Dresdener by the color of the piles. A seal with this picture appears for the first time on a document of the Leipzig council of 1468, before the city used a seal with a castle (1287).
