Coat of Arms of the GDR, Edition 1984 With the publication of five multicolored special postage stamps, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic continues the series "Stadtwappen der DDR". Special cancellations from February 21 to April 20, 1984 Stadtwappen The second city herald issue brings the coat of arms of the district towns of Gera, Halle, Karl-Marx-Stadt, Leipzig and Magdeburg. The coat of arms of Halle shows in the silver shield a lying, upwardly open red half-moon, in the curvature of which there is a six-pointed red star, just as a smaller star is below. Meaning and origin of the coat of arms figures are uncertain; they probably originate from the Propostsiegel of the Augustiner-Chorherrenstift. As official coat of arms of Halle they appear around 1450.
