Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement, Edition 1985 The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes three special postage stamps depicting meritorious personalities of the German workers' movement. No special first-day cover envelope Special cancellation from January 8 to March 7, 1985 Honorable personalities of the German workers' movement, issue 1985 Alfred Kurella Born on May 2, 1895 in Brieg near Breslau (Silesia) as the son of a doctor. After graduation and a semester study at the School of Applied Arts in Bonn in October 1914 convocation to the front. From 1916 to 1918 worked as a tutor in Leipzig. 1917 entry into the Free Socialist Youth and 1918 in the KPD, Ortsgruppe Munich-Schwabing; since 1919 member of the Communist Youth of Germany. In March 1919 sent by the KPD as a courier to Lenin in Moscow. Here co-founder of the Communist Youth International (KJI): from 1919 first in Berlin and from 1921 to 1924 in Moscow as Secretary of the Executive Committee of the KJI active, at the same time a member of the Russian youth association Komsomol and its Central Committee. Commissioned by the Comintern from 1924 to 1926 in Paris, involved in the establishment of a central youth school and the party school of the PCF, whose director he was from 1925 to 1926. Subsequently, work in the Executive Committee of the Communist International (ECCI) in Moscow. Returning to Germany in November 1929, he worked as a freelance writer in Berlin for various cultural-political journals of the party and mass organizations and was a propagandist and agitator in the sub-district Northwest. From 1929 to 1932 he directed the agitation and propaganda work of the newly founded "International Committee of Friends of the Soviet Union" as well as the editorial board of the information sheet issued by the committee, organized the exchange of workers' delegations and lectures on the Soviet Union in Berlin, was editor of the Arbeiter-Illustrierten-Zeitung (AIZ) and 1931/1932 at the same teacher at the Marxist Workers' School (MASCH). In the spring of 1931 study trip to fascist Italy and publication of the book "Mussolini without mask". From 1932 to 1934 Secretary General of the World Committee against War and Fascism founded by Henri Barbusse and Romain Rolland in Paris. At the request of the ECCI in February 1934 resettlement to Moscow and work as a personal advisor to G. Dimitroff. From 1934 to 1941 extensive journalistic activity as a member of the group of anti-fascist writers. After the invasion of Hitler's Germany by the Soviet Union, he became a member of the Political Headquarters of the Red Army; since the summer of 1943, at the same time deputy editor-in-chief of the organ of the National Committee "Free Germany". From 1946 to 1954 living as a writer in the Soviet Union. In 1954 A. Kurella moved to the GDR and became Director of the Literature Institute "Johannes R. Becher" in Leipzig, at the same time he was a member of the German Academy of Arts and its vice president since 1963. At the Fifth Congress of the SED in 1958 as a member of the Elected chairman of the SED Central Committee and politburo candidate for many years, he headed the Political Bureau of the SED Central Committee Political Bureau of the SED Central Committee in 1958. He became a doctor at the age of 73. Alfred Kurella died on June 12, 1975 at the age of 80 years.
