Solidarity, Edition 1985 With a symbolic representation of solidarity, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a multicolored special postage stamp with surcharge. The sums collected will be awarded to the Solitarity Committee of the GDR. Special Cancellation from May 28 to July 27, 1985 Peace Fight and Solidarity The White Dove - well known to all people of the world as a symbol of peace and progress - harnesses its wings to fly around the globe and warn people, vigilantly and actively to be for peace in the world. For the preservation of peace and life, anti-imperialist solidarity has always proved to be a strong force and life-giving principle. Born, tested and proven in the class struggles of our century, today it has become state policy and a matter of the heart of millions of citizens of our republic. Building on the traditions of the German and international workers' movement and thanks to the disinterested help that the Soviet Union granted to the first peace state on German soil after the victory over Hitler's fascism, the GDR was from the outset one of the states that gave solidarity to other countries and peoples and has strengthened today. The diverse forms and methods of solidarity of the GDR, which are as effective in political-moral area as in the training of cadres from young nation-states and liberation movements, the treatment of wounded freedom fighters, carefree holidays for children of fighting or fallen patriots or the provision of much-needed material goods, food, medicines, blankets and tents serve to advance and maintain peace. If the Solidarity Committee of the GDR celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding on July 22, 1985, it can proudly point out, thanks to the achievements of the working people of the GDR and the active and imaginative broad solidarity movement of our people, that the GDR will always provide assistance and support to be used, to his friends. The GDR Solidarity Committee is now a valued partner at international solidarity conferences and, together with other solidarity committees in many countries, is consistently advocating the consolidation of the world's peace and solidarity movement. As initiator, coordinator and organizer of the solidarity movement of the GDR, it realizes and finances z. For example, in close cooperation with universities and companies, the cadre training of young people from nationally liberated states and liberation movements. In collaboration with doctors and nurses, it provides for the accommodation, medical treatment and medical care of wounded liberation fighters. As the trustee of the approximately 200 million marks annually in solidarity donations from the population of the GDR, of which about half are used for cadre training, it also ensures the provision of urgently needed material goods. Anti-imperialist solidarity is a powerful weapon that, in many countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, helps to overcome inherited backwardness and imperialist dependency and to achieve economic and social progress on the path of progressive development. At the same time, the struggle of these peoples against the threat posed by imperialism to world peace is intensifying. They recognize more and more that without the maintenance of peace no solution of the economic and social problems in their countries is possible. Just as the growing strength of socialism and the forces of peace make it possible to succeed in the fight for peace successfully, so will developing countries become increasingly aware of their growing role in the global struggle for peace. Progress can only flourish in peace.
