Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues four special postage stamps depicting meritorious personalities of the German workers' movement. Special cancellation from January 24 to March 23, 1989 Alfred Oelßner Born on August 30, 1879, the son of a bookbinding master in Greliz. 1902 entry into the SPD. During the First World War he turned against the annexation policy of German imperialism. 1917 Member of the USPD. In the November Revolution member of the Workers' and Soldiers Council for the district Halle-Merseburg. In 1919/20 he was head of the party district Halle-Merseburg of the USPD and became after its connection with the left wing of the USPD to the KPD secretary of this district, 1921-1923 secretary of the district Silesia and member of the central committee of the KPD. Participant in the Fourth World Congress of the Comintern in 1922. Until 1928 in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Communist Party. Active work in the RFB and in the Kampfbund against fascism. Participation in the anti-fascist resistance struggle. After the liberation involved in building anti-fascist-democratic administrative organs. Campaigned for the founding of a unified labor party. Was the main cashier of his party. 1950-1954 Chairman of the Central Auditing Commission of the SED. Alfred Oelssner died on June 13, 1962 in Berlin.
