Since the Unification Party Congress in April 1946 member of the party executive committee and the Central Committee of the SED. Since 1949 member of the people's chamber of the GDR. As a co-founder of the DFD from 1947-1964 member of the Federal Executive, she also rendered a meritorious activity in the executive and in the Council of the International Democratic Women's Promotion. 1955-1961 Head of the Working Group Women at the Central Committee of the SED. Edith Baumann contributed significantly to the development of the democratic women's movement in the GDR. 1958-1963 candidate of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. She died on April 7, 1973 in Berlin.
