The European Conference of Transport Ministers (CEMT) was founded in Brussels on 17 October 1953. It should be a forum for European integration in the transport sector. One limitation is that only rail transport, road transport and inland navigation, but not aviation and maritime transport, are within the competence of CEMT. Non-European countries had the opportunity to become associate members of CEMT. One of the main tasks of the CEMT was the implementation of a "general transport policy" aimed at aligning the transport policies of the individual Member States in a single line. The conference addressed the problems of access to the market, the organization and harmonization of the market and the coordination of investments. Special topics that CEMT has repeatedly addressed were city traffic, combined transport in its various forms, and transport science issues. The 39th Session took place in Vienna from 18 to 21 June 1974 and gave rise to the publication of this special postage stamp. The brand image shows various traffic symbols.
