The roebuck is related to the deer. His favorite stay is field crops, bushy meadows and thickets of woodland and hills. He needs a very varied attitude. Tender leaves, young stalks, berries and mushrooms are the preferred food. The coat color is vivid yellow bread in summer and gray-brown in winter. During the rutting season in midsummer the buck marks its territory. The goat has a gestation period of nine months. At the end of May, at the beginning of June, one or two, rarely three, fawns are born in the shelter of tall grass or corn, which are marked exactly like young deer calves. The hunt for the roe deer is practiced on the hunt, the stalking or as a lock hunt. In the latter case, the hunter mimics the yearning mating call, the "fiepen" of the female, most naturally by means of a withered beech leaf (leaf hunt), in order to lure the buck in front of the rifle.
