The Austrian Bishops' Conference declared 1978 the Year of the Family. Based on the Christian understanding of family, the Catholic Family Association of Austria and the Evangelische Familienhilfe in Austria decided at that time to organize a European Family Congress for the family in Vienna within the framework of this year. The following topics were discussed in seven working groups: the representation of the interests of the family internationally and nationally, causes and problems of birth development in Europe, family and education, family and society, family as a community of salvation and new standards for social development. The congress was held from October 26 to 29, 1978, in collaboration with the National Committee of the UIOF, the international family organization. The brand image shows the painting "Tischgebet" by Albin Egger-Lienz (1868-1926). The original is in the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck.
