The 10th International Congress of Austrian Mathematicians took place from 13 to 18 September 1981 at the University of Innsbruck. Organizer was the Austrian Mathematical Society. As part of the congress, a school mathematics symposium and the annual convention 1981 of the German Mathematical Association were held. The brand image shows the congress symbol. The upper and lower parts of the illustrated cube skeleton are each true to itself, without it being possible to connect the two parts in a consistent manner. In the transition from one part to the other, the eye is forced to reinterpret the surfaces and their position. This was to show the surprising, incomprehensible aspects of the otherwise logical mathematics. The idea of this impossible cube construction was used in 1958 by the Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher (1898-1972) in a lithograph titled "Belvedere". The aim of the Austrian Mathematical Society (ÖMG) is the promotion of mathematics in the vocational and general education sector, within the universities and in the field of business, industry and insurance. It was founded in 1903 under the name Viennese Mathematical Society.
