From 2 to 7 September 1984, the 20th Congress of the International Bar Association, IBA for short, was held in Vienna. The IBA was founded in 1947 as a union of national lawyers 'associations such as bar associations, lawyers' associations etc. The IBA increased the establishment of sections of individual membership of lawyers and their involvement in the IBA. The successful development of the IBA represents z.Z. 80 national lawyers' organizations and more than 7,000 individual members from 113 countries. The Austrian Bar Association, the umbrella organization of the regional lawyers' organizations in Austria, is a member of the IBA. In the opinion of the IBA, third world countries in particular are a major challenge in which legal organizations must be established as an indispensable prerequisite for the rule of law. The most important activity of the IBA, however, is the organization of the two-year congresses, which serve as a forum for international exchange of information and experience. The stamp shows the statue of Justitia by the artist Pendl (Palace of Justice in Vienna) and the logo of the IBA.
