At the age of 22 Thomas Morgenstern is already one of the most successful Austrian ski jumpers of all time. As a two-time Olympic champion and overall World Cup winner of the 2007/2008 season, the likeable Carinthian has provided enthusiastic joy among his numerous fans over the past two years. Born on October 30, 1986 in Spittal an der Drau, the hopeful young talents in the Vierschanzen Tour 2002/2003 literally made the leap to the top of the world (6th place at the end of the tour evaluation). Only five days later he won his first World Cup competition in Liberec, Czech Republic. In February 2003 Morgenstern in Solleftea in both individual competition and with the team junior world champion. Morgenstern confirmed these successes in the next season - he was well placed fourth in the standings. At the Junior World Championships, he won the silver, and with the team the gold medal. In the World Cup overall ranking, he finished in 6th place. Also in the 2004/2005 season Morgenstern showed his skills: At the Four Hills Tournament, he finished third, took at the World Championships in Oberstdorf in the team gold from the small and the big Bakken and secured the 7th place in the World Cup ranking. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, the star of Thomas Morgenstern finally stood up in all its athletic splendor: on the large hill, the "young eagle" secured his first Olympic gold with a minimal lead over Andreas Kofler. Both outclassed the competition due to their wide jumps in the second round. A few days later Morgenstern completed his sporting dream: Together with his colleagues Andreas Widhölzl, Martin Koch and Andreas Kofler he won the gold medal in the team competition on the large hill. At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo (Japan), he won together with Wolfgang Loitzl, Gregor Schlierenzauer and Andreas Kofler again the gold medal in the team competition on the large hill, almost as a "bonus" he secured himself the bronze medal in the individual competition on the normal hill. The past season was also extremely successful for the young daredevil: as the first jumper in history, he won the first six events of a World Cup season. Unbelievable, but true: Already six jumps before the end of the season, he was the winner of the overall World Cup! What distinguishes the popular athlete is not just his athletic success. His large group of supporters, he enjoys above all high sympathy, not least because of his youthless carefree nature. Almost legendary is his determined attitude, which he says in the statement "Before I make a leap on safety, I prefer to go down on foot" pointedly brought to the point.
