Gregor Schlierenzauer, born on January 7, 1990 in Rum near Innsbruck, became an absolute shooting star among the Austrian ski jumpers last season. As a nerve-racking serial winner, the likeable Tyrolean conquered the hearts of his fan base. The popular athlete's first major success was the victory at the Junior World Championships in February 2006. Already a month later, "Schlieri" debuted at the World Cup competition in Oslo, where he immediately jumped into the points. Since the second competition of the 2006/07 season, he has been part of the main squad of Austria for the World Cup. Sensational: Already at his first assignment that season he jumped to fourth place! He won the second jump from the large hill in front of the Norwegian Anders Jacobsen, making him one of the youngest ski jumpers of all time. At the Four Hills Tournament in 2006/07, he then managed two daily wins and second place in the overall standings. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, he finally won the team the gold medal in jumping from the large hill. The 2007/08 season was also very successful; she was crowned with the title of ski flying champion. The day after, he was with Martin Koch, Thomas Morgenstern and Andreas Kofler also team ski flying world champion. At the end of the season, he set with his victory in ski flying in Planica with 232.5 meters, a new Austrian long-distance record. He later surpassed this record again with 233.5 meters. As part of the FIS Grand Prix Schlierenzauer won in August 2008 jumping in Pragelato and thus won in the overall standings of the 4-nation Grand Prix. He was also able to win the following two competitions - and with further victories he also won the overall ranking of the 2008 FIS Grand Prix. As a member of the ski flying teams, he was named "Sportsman of the Year" in October 2008 in the "Teams" category. In January 2009 he improved the previous hill record at the legendary Kulm to 215.5 meters. In the 2008/09 season Gregor Schlierenzauer won six World Cup competitions in a row, setting the record for Janne Ahonen, Matti Hautamaeki and Thomas Morgenstern. He holds the record of thirteen (!) Won World Cup competitions in a season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009, he won behind his teammate Wolfgang Loitzl the silver medal on the normal hill, with the team he won the world championship title on the large hill a week later. The overall World Cup 2008/2009 he secured with 2,083 points from 27 competitions - this is the absolute point record in the World Cup of ski jumpers! Almost to drüberstreuen he won in the same season also the special rating of the ski flying World Cup.
