The "Bund Deutscher Philatelisten" has submitted to the Federal Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications the request that a special postage stamp be issued on the day of the stamp. This request was granted. The tender for the special postage stamps "Westropa" (Western European stamp exhibition 1955) was in the previous year u. a. a design by Uli Huber, which at the time was the focus of attention because of its striking graphic form, but was not used. This draft remembered the art advisory board of the German Federal Post Office in view of the new task. A re-tender under several graphic artists was unnecessary. The artist was commissioned to correct the inscription on the letter, which the dove carries in its beak, and the value indication. The stamp was executed by Bundesdruckerei Berlin in intaglio printing in green.
