In 1952, the Deutsche Bundespost published for the first time a special stamp for the "Stamp Day". The emergence of this day, however, is longer. In the mid-thirties renowned philatelists brought the idea of an annual stamp day into the discussion. On January 7, 1936, the time had come: in the marble hall of the Berlin zoo, the first »Stamp Day« was festively celebrated in Germany. This appointment was not chosen by chance. It was also the 105th birthday of Henry v. Stephans, the founder of the Universal Postal Union. In the following years Sunday, which followed January 7, was "Stamp Day" in Germany. Other countries, such as Austria, had already implemented the idea earlier. The International Philatelic Association (FIP) dealt with this subject at the request of the German delegation at its 11th congress in August 1936 in Luxembourg. He recommended, on the basis of a joint decision, that his affiliates organize a "Stamp Day" at national level each year. 1941 - 1944 a special stamp of the German Reichspost was published with a surcharge for the "Stamp Day". After the war, Deutsche Post first issued a special postage stamp for the "Stamp Day" in Berlin in 1951. The German Federal Post Office published first in the years 1955-1957 in Berlin, then in 1952 and 1956 each a special stamp on the "Day of the stamp" in the Federal Republic. Every year since 1975, the Deutsche Bundespost has dedicated a special stamp to the "Stamp Day" commemorating the feast day of a large community, which is now estimated at 1 to 2 million collectors. The date for the "Stamp Day" is redefined annually. This year it is the 25th of October. On this day the "Bund Deutscher Philatelisten" promotes central events and exhibitions for the hobby »Philatelie«; a hobby with cultural leisure value and many opportunities for encounters. More than 900 local associations of the Association of German Philatelists, its national associations and the German Philatelisten-Jugend throughout the Federal Republic of Germany and Berlin (West) regularly invite to this meeting with philately and interested philatelists - and not only on the "Stamp Day"!
