On this day, the Association of German Philatelists e.V. - the umbrella organization of all stamp collectors - together with the Deutsche Bundespost, with central events, stamp exhibitions, advertising shows and exchange days in all states for the philately hobby. A hobby with a high cultural recreational value and with many opportunities to meet young and old and to deal with stamps and events from all over the world. With these activities, the tasks, goals and the comprehensive service of the Association of German Philatelists e.V., its national associations and the German Philatelist Youth for nearly 100,000 registered members and a large number of related friends are presented to a broad public. Since 1975, Deutsche Bundespost has regularly issued a special stamp for the "Stamp Day". This year, the series »Historical post motives« will be continued. Human-to-human written information is as old as Scripture itself. The history of the Epistle can be traced back to antiquity. But the letter is also very important in the age of modern electronic communications technology. More than 50 million letter mail items are transported daily by the Deutsche Bundespost. They convey important messages of a private and business nature. Not infrequently, letters are also coveted collectibles. Brands, stamps, postal and private endorsements on letters can be important documents for postal and contemporary history. Probably the rarest letter with a misprint mark of Alt-Baden from the year 1851 achieved at a auction in Wiesbaden in March 1985 a sensational world record price of 2,300,000, - DM. The special stamp for the "Day of the stamp 1993" is with a surcharge Provided. The proceeds will go to the "Foundation for the Promotion of Philately and Postal History". This foundation has set itself the task of promoting philatelic and post-historical aspirations of all kinds, as well as the diverse activities on the "Day of the Stamp 1993".
