Cyclamen delight us all year round in the most beautiful colors - from pure white to pastel salmon tones to velvety red or bright purple. Of the 22 species of the primrose family (Primulaceae) only the European Cyclamen (Cyclamen hederifolium) is native to Germany. In our gardens but have also proven the early spring cyclamen (Cyclamen coum) and the Ivy-leaved cyclamen (Cyclamen hederifolium). As a domestic winter classic is the Zimmer cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum). The plants reach an average height of 10 to 15 centimeters. Their leaves are mostly dark green and have an attractive bright drawing on the surface. The flowers stand on single, down-pointing stems, while the five oval petals are strongly bent upwards. Cyclamen can best develop at locations in the sun or in partial shade on loose, humus, calcareous and rather dry soils. Depending on the variety, the flowers may be sensitive to frost or hardy, as well as evergreen, summer or wintergreen.
