The stamp shows the motif of the German philosopher and founder of Marxism, Karl Heinrich Marx. He was born on May 5, 1818 in Trier. He studied philosophy, political science and history in Bonn and Berlin and in 1843 married Jenny von Westphalen. In the same year he began to deal with socialist ideas in Paris. Here he met Engels, who accompanied him to Brussels when Marx was expelled from the country. In 1847, both designed the "Communist Manifesto" for the "League of the Just". After publishing the "Neue Rheinische Zeitung" in Cologne in 1848-49, he went to London after its prohibition, where more of his works appeared. Among them are "The Critique of Political Economy", in 1859 and the first volume of "Das Kapital" in 1867, from which Engels published two more volumes from 1885 to 1894. Marx died on March 14, 1883 in London.
