Eisenhütte Österreich is a technical and scientific association based in Leoben, which annually organizes the Austrian Ironmonger's Day. From May 18 to 20, 1992, the association held the Iron Heath Day in Linz on the occasion of the "40 Years LD Process" anniversary. In 1952-53, this revolutionary steelmaking process was first introduced at VOEST in Linz and then in Alpine-Donawitz. The LD process is the production of steel, in which pig iron is refined into steel using pure oxygen. The developments of the Austrian inventors of LD had an influence on steel production worldwide and were awarded the UNESCO Science Prize in 1972.
