Since its inception, the goals of the working-class movement have not been solely aimed at materially gaining a better position for the creative people. In addition to the desire to reduce working time, the urge to improve the economic and social situation, the struggle for liberation from the shackles of powerful capitalism, the workers aspired to higher education. It was realized that only by elevating the mental level would success be possible in the future. The closed power of the propertied bourgeoisie could only be defeated by a well-educated proletariat. The intellectually equal will more easily defy his adversary by objective arguments, will overcome the resistance more easily, approach the goal more quickly than radical bravado would be able to do. The founding of the "Trade Union Printing and Paper" took place in 1842 as a "support association for sick book printers and typewriters in Vienna". It was therefore only a logical development when, in 1897, some colleagues felt the need to create an association whose mission was to further develop professional education beyond the scope of one's own business. More than any other profession, the graphic profession is subject to the changed taste of the time and therefore reliant on training in a wider community.
