The common outline for the European brands 1964 of the countries of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) is from the postal administrations involved in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Commission "Post", which took place from 16 to 21 March 1964 in Lisbon has been selected. The choice fell on a design by the French artist Georges Bétemps. The flower chosen as the motif of the brand shows the sign CEPT in the middle as a symbol. The 22 petals are CEPT countries. In addition, an inscription on the stem of the flower indicates the 5th anniversary of the CEPT. The decision not to publish the drafts of the participating countries on which the selection is based remains valid.
