MAX VON PETTENKOFER, hygienist, was born on 3 December 1818 in Lichtenheim near Neuburg (Bavaria). As a professor at the University of Munich, he received the first chair of hygiene. He became the founder of modern hygiene. Max von Pettenkofer died on 10 February 1901 in Munich.
