The rabbit is a relatively young pet species. Although the sociable rodents were already known to the ancient Romans as livestock, but they are systematically bred in Europe only since the 16th century. Rabbit breeding was widespread in Germany at the end of the 19th century. In the age of industrialization, rabbits were often the only animals that could be kept in confined spaces. In particular, industrial areas in Saxony or the Ruhr developed into strongholds for rabbit breeding. Today there are 185,000 rabbit breeders in Germany, organized in 6,800 clubs. The new edition (145 + 55 cents) shows two chinchilla rabbits.
