Hunting in the GDR On the subject of "hunting in the GDR", the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from 15 November 1977 to 14 January 1978 Hunting in the GDR 15-pfennig value: red deer (Cervus elaphus) The red deer currently haunts about 60 percent of the GDR's hunting grounds. Most deer are found in the northern districts. The red deer also shows a spreading tendency. Here, the hunters must intervene to regulate, as the deer causes damage to agricultural and forestry crops. The firing increased from 4,800 pieces in 1936 to 19,800 in 1976. A coveted hunting trophy is the antlers of the red deer. The strongest deer of the GDR reached in 1976 in Ceske Budejovice 231.87 international points and was killed in the district of Schwerin.
