Denkmalpflege-ICOMOS On the occasion of the General Assembly of the International Society for the Preservation of Monuments in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues four multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from April 24 to June 23, 1984 Preservation of monuments 40 Pfennig value: Steintor in Rostock From the medieval city fortifications from the second half of the 13th century even larger coherent parts are preserved. To the city fortifications belong remains of the city wall of brick on Feldsteinsockel, semicircular protruding soft houses, the Lagebuschturm, the four city gates: Cow, Kröpeliner-, Monchen- and Steintor. The medieval stone gate was destroyed in 1566. Instead of the old gate, Antonius Wahrholt erected the new stone gate in 1574-1577. During World War II, the gate sustained severe damage and was rebuilt in 1954. The cubic structure is crowned by a high helmet roof. The passage has a renaissance border to the city side - four pillars bear a gable architecture decorated with relief. Small ornamental gables on the cornice create a transition between the building and the roof.
