Historic Post Office The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes four multicolored special postage stamps with illustrations of historical post offices individually and in combination. Special cancellation from 3 February to 2 April 1987 Historic Post Office 70 Pfennig value: Post Office Weimar The Post Office Weimar was built on the corner of Goetheplatz and Schwanseestraße in the center of the city of Weimar in the years 1388-1889. The building shows a rectangular plan with risalits at the corners of the street fronts and in the middle of the building at Goetheplatz. The building is built on two floors. It contains the service rooms of the Post Office and Telecommunications Office, including the modernized ticket hall of the post office Weimar 1 as well as the newly designed parcel hall in the building section Schwanseestraße. The main view after Goetheplatz shows 13 axes and two equal corner risalites, each 4.36 m wide, with an axis. The use of the entire new building took place from December 1889. The last construction work such as fencing, Hofpflasterung u. a. were finished in May 1890. The building is a monument of urban design and architecture.
