Horticultural exhibitions, for decades national and international public showcases of horticulture, are examples of urban planning and environmental change, of quality of life and decent cities. They are connected with the construction of permanent parks and gardens. The 5th International Horticultural Exhibition, the IGA Stuttgart - Expo 93 -, is in the focus of a broad national and international public. The city of Stuttgart has tuned in with its entire region to this world event. The one-million-square-meter nature area offers colorful fragrant floral seas and fantastic local and international gardens, as well as a colorful entertainment program with 3,000 sports and games events, art and culture. The special attraction of the IGA is a fully automatic, emission-free, futuristic-looking train, the Panoramabahn. It is so far unique in Europe, drives mainly at high altitudes and connects the four parts of the exhibition area. However, the icing on the cake of this international show are the 22 gardens from the most diverse countries of the world, which present themselves not only with their garden art, but also with their culture. Another highlight is the 23 hall shows with their weekly changing exhibition themes. In total, 33 states of the world participate in this international horticultural exhibition. The international event also includes the Green University or the Ecology Center, where information and discussion on the environmental issues of our time are a priority. Traditionally, the International Horticultural Exhibition is under the patronage of the Federal President, who will also open it. (Text: International Horticultural Exhibition 1993 Stuttgart GmbH)
