In the vicinity of Villach on the Drava high above the water, lies the mission monastery Wernberg. Already in the high Middle Ages was at the place of the monastery the estate Werdenburch, from 1403 called "Wernberg". It belonged to the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul, which was a foundation of the Sponnheimer, who have been the Dukes of Carinthia since 1122. 1672 was the purchase of the former castle by the monastery Ossiach. 1783 Wernberg was repealed in the course of the monastic reforms of Joseph II, and after frequent change of ownership, it was not until 1935 in the possession of the Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood. The Wernberg Missionary Sisters live their apostolic mission on the basis of the Benedictine "Ora et Labora". Visitors from home and abroad appreciate the Benedictine hospitality, which they encounter today in the course of many events in the monastery Wernberg.
