The Kalkalpen National Park, situated in the south of Upper Austria, is Austria's first forest national park. Protected here is the low mountain range of the Reichraminger Hintergebirge with its deeply cut gorges and pristine streams and the rugged limestone chain of the Sengsengebirge. In January 1997, Environment Minister Dr. Martin Bartenstein and Governor Dr. Josef Pühringer the State Treaty between the Republic of Austria and the Federal State of Upper Austria - the birth certificate for the National Park. The aim of the national park: nature should be able to develop here without human intervention - without economic use. Visitors will find a team of well-trained national park guides in and around the Kalkalpen National Park: these lead to peaks and through the gorges and bring the nature and history of the area to life. As the protection and conservation of nature is a major concern of the POST AND TELEKOM AUSTRIA, it has dedicated a special postage stamp to the new national park.
