Deep-sea ships of the GDR The Ministry of Postal and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multi-colored special postage stamps depicting seagoing ships of the GDR. Special cancellation from June 22 to August 21, 1982 Sea-going vessels of the GDR The VEB Deutfracht / Seereederei Rostock (DSR) celebrates its 30th anniversary on 1 July 1982. The first decade was marked by extraordinary momentum. In 1952, the VEB DSR had only one ship, the steamer "forward", in 1962 the deep-sea trading fleet already consisted of 82 ships with a total carrying capacity of 482,424 t. At present, the VEB DSR uses about 180 vessels, which transport goods of all kinds worldwide and safely to the satisfaction of shippers using modern transport technologies. 5 Pfennig value: MS "peace", general cargo ship type IV It was the first of a series of 15 ships, which was built by the VEB Warnowwerft Warnemünde. With the commissioning of the ship in June 1957, the then VEB Deutsche Seereederei Rostock had the first large ship from GDR production. MS "Frieden" was particularly well suited for the transportation of general cargo, with cargo holds and sweet oil tanks.The ship, 158 m long and 20.04 m wide, had a capacity of 13,000 t with a draft of 9.67 m Engines of the VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt with a total of 7,200 hp propelled by two propellers and reached a speed of 16 knots (29.6 km / h) .The traditional ship of this type can be visited in Rostock-Schmarl.
