A considerable part of this collection is the microscope collection. Some of the remarkable microscopes can be seen in the exhibition of the Optical Museum of the Carl Zeiss Foundation Jena. These are microscopes from the late 17th century to 1980. One of the first microscopes in the world, the optics of which were precisely calculated by Ernst Abbe, is depicted on the 70-pfennig mark by Carl Zeiss' large horse-shoe tripod in Jena. The year of construction was 1873. The microscope can be tipped back for convenient use. Furthermore, it is equipped with a nosepiece and a fine drive to move the tube.
