In 1964, the Deutsche Bundespost brought for the first time three brands dedicated to advances in the fields of technology and science. With them, the discovery of the benzene formula and the nuclear fission and the invention of the internal combustion engine was thought. If this series continues now after two years, it will be two technical anniversaries that give rise to it. On August 24, 1891, the first power transmission system for three-phase current was put into operation at the International Electrotechnical Exhibition in Frankfurt am Main. Thus, 75 years ago, the upswing in the distribution of electrical energy began, which still gives its character to today's electricity industry. At the end of 1866 Werner von Siemens wrote his essay "On the conversion of labor into electricity without the use of permanent magnets." The dynamoelectric principle was discovered and thus created 100 years ago the basis for the technical production of electrical energy and its application in the large. The artists invited to work on the two brands should in one case represent the scheme of three-phase current transmission, in the other case in a simplified form a dynamo machine and have received suitable documentation for this purpose. All graphic artists involved provided one solution each. Only Prof. Karl Oskar Blase gave an alternative suggestion for the first brand. His works are characterized by a vivid color, which takes the technical allegations of all drought. These brands seem very lively, like colorful pages from a jolly picture-book, and yet show the whole seriousness, the complete reliability of the technical functioning - down to the smallest correct, as the experts stated, who made a rigorous examination. In the outer skeleton and in the mood, the brands tie directly to the series two years ago. One senses that all five come from one source. Thus, the larger series merges without breakage into a beautiful whole. The Federal Minister of Posts and Telecommunications has endorsed the election of the Art Advisory Board. The stamps have been produced in the tried-and-tested manner at the Bundesdruckerei Berlin, using the process of multicolor offset printing.
