As early as 1948, the Austrian Post and Telegraph Administration had issued a special stamp series in favor of Austrian reconstruction. However, the still very strong need for funding to restore the Austrian infrastructure made it necessary to provide additional funds. This new series of special stamps with a supplement to the subject of reconstruction should anchor this issue anew in public. Like all the following brands, the first brand in this series, in contrast to the 1948 reconstruction series, does not place the workplace but the working people at the center of the presentation. It shows a miner in his characteristic gear with helmet, hammer and miner's lamp during his arduous and dangerous work during the day.
