In the summer of 1992, the "United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child" was signed by Austria. More than one hundred countries have committed themselves to guarantee basic children's rights, ranging from the prohibition of child labor and protection against abuse to the right to education. Many discussions preceded the adoption of the text of the Convention. After all, it took almost ten years for the UN General Assembly to decide on 20 November 1989. The purpose of this international treaty is not only to guarantee basic rights for children, but also to increase awareness worldwide in this area. A large number of initiatives took account of this objective after the signing of this State Treaty in Austria.
