The gray long-eared bat (Plecotus austriacus) is a medium-sized bat with a long gray coat and very large ears. It is widespread in Germany but does not reach any of the coasts and is rare almost everywhere. In the vicinity of human dwellings, the typical village bat feels particularly well. She almost always chooses her quarters in and around buildings. At nightfall, the gray long ear goes hunting. On the menu are primarily moths, which are sent and captured in flapping flight mostly in free airspace. She can deliver her ultrasound calls either through her mouth or through her nose.
