Small game The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic announces six multi-colored commemorative stamps for the "Year of the Small Game 1968", which is to increase the number of small game stocks. The stimulus for this special stamp series was given by the State Committee for Forestry at the Agricultural Council of the GDR. Small game Six special postage stamps and a first day envelope bring the philatelists close to hunting animals. A special cancel complements this issue with designs of small game. The 30-pfennig value makes us familiar with the wood pigeon (Columba palumbus L.). It occurs almost everywhere in Europe, except treeless areas and the high north. The woodpigeon is the largest and most common of the four wild dove species found in the German Democratic Republic. She breeds and nights on trees or shrubs, always lays only 2 eggs, broods 2 to 3 times a year. It is very adaptable, so it can also be found in parks. The woodpigeon is a train and line bird wintering in southwestern Europe. It eats seeds, buds, green plant parts, insects and acorns. The woodpigeon reaches an average weight of about 500 g.
