Appointed by the people as "Emperor" and courted by the press, he has become a football legend and has shaped the development of football through his years as a visionary and all-rounder. Franz Beckenbauer was born on 11.9.1945 as the son of a post office official in Munich. He learned the football game at SC 1906 Munich and moved in 1958 to FC Bayern Munich. In 1965 he played his first international match for Germany. His star was at the World Cup 1966 in England. In the twelve years as a national player he played 103 caps and participated in 3 World Championships. The biggest success for him was certainly the World Cup final in 1974, when Germany won in the final against the team of the Netherlands. In 1977, he moved to the football development country USA to Cosmos New York, where he became triple US champion. After his return in 1980, he was hired by Hamburger SV. In 1982 he ended his career. In the summer of the following year he let himself be persuaded to a final season at Cosmos New York. As a footballer, he was voted Germany's Footballer of the Year four times and twice he became Europe's Footballer of the Year. He completed 424 Bundesliga games, including 396 for Bayern Munich, with whom he won four times the championship title, four times the European Cup and four times the DFB Cup. He once became German champion with Hamburger SV. In 1984 Franz Beckenbauer took over as coach of the German national team, led them in 1986 in the World Cup final and won at the 1990 World Cup, the third world title for Germany. He was second to Mario Zagallo, who became world champion both as a player and as a coach. Also at Bayern Munich Beckenbauer appeared as an interim coach in appearance and won in 1994 the German championship and in 1996 for the first time the UEFA Cup. Since 1994 he is president of this association. As chairman of the application committee, he successfully supported Germany's application for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and became head of the organizing committee. Franz Beckenbauer is also a sought-after media personality. His expertise in football made him a popular commentator on television and in the press. He founded the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation to help people with disabilities who were not in debt. His passion is golf, he lives in Kitzbühel.
