In front of the 676 meter high Domberg, among other things, the late Gothic, 1487 - 1491 built main church of St. Mary can be seen, which was then renewed in the 18th century for the most part. The houses of the inhabitants of Suhl, who were active at that time mainly in the weapon production, the iron ore mining and processing as well as in the barchment weaving, gather around them. The intermediate field shows the Suhl coat of arms, which was probably created around 1527. It carries in silver a red castle with battlements and battlemented towers with blue roofs and red pommels. In the open golden gate steps on a golden background and on a green three-mountained mountain a black hen, memory of the county Henneberg. Between the towers floats a golden sole, pierced by a blue hoe. This is to indicate a legend, according to which at the founding of Suhl at the first heel strike a shoe sole lying in the ground was pierced. In reality, however, probably de sole probably a saline or ore trough symbolize, since initially salt production and later ore mining historical main commercial branch of the Suhler were.
