The postage stamp series »For Sport« is dedicated in 1996 to the anniversary »100 Years of the Olympic Games«. The games of the first modern Olympiad in Athens lasted from 6 to 15 April 1896. 295 athletes from 13 countries participated in a total of 43 competitions in 9 sports. The summer games of XXVI. Olympics will take place from July 19, 1996 to August 4, 1996 in Atlanta. Around 10,000 athletes from 197 countries will participate in 271 competitions in 26 sports. The four postage stamps issued for this occasion honor outstanding German Olympic champions. Annie Hübler-Horn (1885-1976) was not only the first German Olympic champion in 1908 in the figure skating category of the couples, but also the first Olympic champion in the Olympic winter sports program ever.
