The issue of special stamps with surcharges in favor of the »Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe«, whose patron is the Federal President, is to help the social tasks and tasks of the foundation in all areas of sport. The sports brands are dedicated to outstanding sporting events this year. The International Bobsleigh Association (FIBT) celebrates its anniversary with the 1986 World Championships, which will be held in February / March 1986 on the artificial ice rink on the Königssee. For the 50th time then Bob World Championships will be held. The invention of the bob is said to forge master Mattys from St. Moritz, who allegedly in 1888 presented his construction to the astonished winter guests. This new winter sport quickly became international. As early as 1906, the first German Championships took place in the Thuringian Oberhof. Since the first Winter Olympics in 1924, bobsledding has been a fixture in the Olympic Games. In recent decades bobsledding has become a real competitive sport. The time of the "heavy men" has long been a thing of the past. Athletics, speed and courage are the main criteria that the active person who wants to successfully practice this sport has to bring. The World Championships will be held in 2 and 4-Bob; the carriages, which are mostly made of metal and plastic, are exactly limited in their dimensions. The maximum permissible weight applies to the sleds and the crew. Around 20 nations are actively involved in world championships; The strongholds of this racing sport can be found in St. Moritz, Lake Placid, Cortina, Cervinia and for some years also in Berchtesgaden / Königssee. Here in 1969, the first combined artificial ice rink in the world was built, which serves the disciplines Bob, luge and skeleton equally as a sports venue. In the meantime, the ninth combined artificial ice rink is already under construction: in 1988 it will be available to Calgary-based Olympic athletes.
