Technical Monuments of the GDR - Windmills With the depiction of windmills as technical monuments in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes four multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellations from November 10, 1981 to January 9, 1982 Windmills Windmills are particularly suitable for documenting the diligence and achievements of their inventors and builders over a large historical period of time. The attraction of a mill in the present time but also lies in their landscape character. Their value as a technical monument they receive primarily by the use of wind power as a drive, in a technology that has matured over centuries. The windmills obtained in the GDR can essentially be assigned to four different types of construction. The most common is the post windmill in appearance. The Dutch mills differ according to their construction in stand, tower and gallery Dutch mills. Paltrockmühlen and wind turbines close the circle. 70 Pfennig value: Bockwindmühle in Ballstädt (district of Erfurt) This well-preserved Bockwindmühle, built around 1850, has a roof shape as one otherwise finds predominantly in the Altmark. Their simple technical equipment is sufficient for grinding with low demands. Since she is not directly on a mountain, she works with so-called fall winds, as they often arise on slopes. The Bockwindmühle consists of a massive wooden construction anchored in the ground, on which the Bock rests with the mighty house tree. This buck carries the wooden mill housing. With the help of the Sterzes, an obliquely downwardly directed beam, the entire housing is turned with the wings against the wind. This type of mill is the oldest among the mills with a rotatable housing.
