The slender tower of the St. Nikolai Greifswald Cathedral - he measures a proud 99.97 meters - presents himself today with a baroque helmet. Formerly, it even towered much higher into the sky: 120 meters measured between the 13th and 15th centuries still Nadeladelspitze tower, which set up the Greifswalder of built in north German brick Gothic church. However, he could not withstand the strong Baltic winds: In March 1515 and again in February 1650 he collapsed and destroyed parts of the nave. After the tower had suffered for a long time, it began in 1977 with first restoration work. In June 1989 he was solemnly inaugurated in the presence of the GDR State Council Chairman Erich Honecker. Ten years later, the sounds of the prayer and professor's bell sounded again for the first time, cast in 1440 by Rickert de Monkehagen.
