Park Wilhelmshöhe is one of Kassel's most famous landmarks. The center of the mountain park in the Habichtswald is the axis between the castle and the eight-meter-high figure of Hercules. He looks down at the defeated giant Enkelados, who, in fainting fury, spits out a stream of water against his conqueror. The Italian master builder Giovanni Francesco Guerniero designed from 1701 on behalf of the Landgrave Charles of Hesse-Kassel this work of art of European rank. The plant, which has undergone a thorough renovation in recent decades, now shines in new splendor.
